An enclosure 7 has an operable cover 11 and contains a circuit interrupter 21 with an actuating member 23, while an operating member 61 is movable to actuate the actuating member 23 via rack-and-pinion operating means 63, 67. A spring-biased handle 29 moves rods 41 to lock the cover 11 closed, the handle 29 being latched in the cover-closed position by a part 111 of a latch 93 engaging a notch 113 in the plate 35 which is movable with the handle 29. In this position the latch 93 also holds a latch 77 against its biasing spring 91 to permit free movement of the rack plate 67 and thus unobstructed operation of the circuit interrupter 21 by operating member 61, Fig. 6. Rotation of latch 93 via a bolt 97 unlatches the handle 29 and allows opening of the cover 11, if interrupter 21 is " off," while part 89 of the latch 77 then engages pin 72 and prevents downward movement of rack plate 67 (Fig. 7, not shown), until latch 77 is rotated via a bolt 79. If interrupter 21 is " on " when latch 93 is released, the cover 11 will not open unless latch 77 is also released as latch parts 87, 95, remain engaged.
