Abstract
1,140,288. Switchgear structures; electrically released switches; actuation of switches. S & C ELECTRIC CO. 11 April, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 16548/67. Heading H1N. Switchgear comprises a metallic housing 17, Fig. 6, having a door 22 on which is mounted a fuse 85. A switch blade 105 interconnects the device and a fixed contact 134 within the housing, and interlocking means are provided to prevent the opening of the door when the blade 105 is in its closed position. The interlocking means may comprise out-turned portions 90 of a contact 88 on the fuse 85. These portions 90 engage behind arcuate flanges 126 of contact members 124 on the blade 105. The door 22, Fig. 2, has a latch bar 38 movable by a door handle 26 which has a detent 49 co-operating with a pawl 54. This pawl is connected by flexible cables 62 to a locking lever 65 effective to latch the switch-operating handle 33, and to a locking lever 74 effective to lock the switch blade 105. This arrangement prevents the unlatching of the door when the switch is closed and the operation of the switch when the door is unlatched. When the switch blade 105 is moved to open the switch, a member 145 engages a metallic housing 143 to transfer the current path to a circuit interrupter 136. The member 145 also engages an opening arm 144 to open the circuit interrupter 136 which is of the kind having a contact 137 movable in an insulating tube and carrying an insulating trailer 138. Closing of this interrupter 136 is effected by a closing cam 148 operating a closing lever 147 as the blade 105 is moved to its closed position. The switch operating mechanism, Figs. 15 and 21, includes an overcentre compression spring 239 which may be compressed and moved into a position just overcentre by the operating handle 33 ready to open or close the switch. In each of these overcentre positions a latch hook 291 or 292 latches a pin 286 on a switch operating lever 212. The latch hook 291 or 292 may be operated to release the pin 286, so that the spring 239 can move the lever 212 to close or open the switch, by a push-button 301 or 302 respectively or by a " closing " coil 299 or " opening " coil 300 respectively. The latch hooks, &c., may be omitted so that the mechanism functions as a simple overcentre snap-action arrangement.
