Abstract

1,135,169. Switchgear structures; automatic circuit-breakers; high voltage switches. S. & G. ELECTRIC CO. 17 April, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 17497/67. Heading H1N. Switchgear comprises a metal housing 11 with a door 15, stationary contacts 23, 24 in the housing, a switch blade 38 mounted on the door and co-operating with one of the stationary contacts, current conducting means including a separable contact circuit interrupter on the door interconnecting the blade and the other stationary contact, actuating means on the door for moving the blade 38 into or out of engagement with the contact 23, and interlocking means to prevent opening of the door unless the blade is in its open position. In the arrangement shown the blade 38 is mounted on a spindle 47, 83 and is connected in series with a vacuum switch 39 and a current-sensing device 40. Operation of the blade 38 and the vacuum switch 39 is effected by a handle 93 through a chain drive 89, an overcentre snapaction spring toggle 85 and a normally overset toggle 84, the switch 39 being opened before the blade 38 separates from the fixed contact 23. In the event of overload, the fusing of an element in the device 40 releases a spring- biased member 162 to pivot a lever 166 and through linkage 170, 172, 200 and 202 break the toggle 84 so that a spring can open the switch 39 and the switch blade 38. Contacts within the device 40 shunt the fusible element when the member 162 is released. The toggle 84 may be reset by returning the handle 94 to the " off " position. Should the overload be beyond the rupturing capacity of the switch 39, the current in a conductor 73 attracts an armature 194 to move a lever 185 so that its end 187 latches the lever 166 until the current falls. Latching, interlocking.-Opening of the door when the switch blade 38 is in its closed position is prevented by inwardly turned ends 44 of the blade 38 co-operating with an arcuate flange 45 on the contact 23. In addition, the door latch (not shown) is interlocked with the switch spindle 83 by a cable 237, a locking lever 241 and a locking cam 243 on the spindle 83. The handle 93 is latched by a lever 212 until the fusible element has been replaced and the linkage 170, 172, 200 and 202 has been reset by depressing a push-button to move a lever 204. A further latch lever (not shown) associated with this linkage prevents the closing of the door, once opened, until the linkage is reset.
