A pair of identical toggle switches 12, 14, e.g. as in Specification 1,131,785, each have an operating handle 22 pivotable about an axis 66 between a switch open position, shown by switch 14 in Fig. 2, and a switch closed position, shown by switch 12 in Fig. 2, and a pin 56 extending from the handle and engaging in a notch 92 in an interlock member 80 or 81 rotatable about a pin 82. When switch 12 is actuated (its handle is moved [from the Fig. 1] to the Fig. 2 position), its pin 56 rotates member 80 anticlockwise so that a curved surface 86 on member 80 engages a linear surface 88 on member 81 to prevent clockwise rotation of member 81 and thus actuation of switch 14. Members 80, 81 are mounted on a plate 62 provided with openings 72 aligned with openings (50, Fig. 1) in the switches and threaded openings in ears 74 in an outlet box 16, these openings receiving screws 76 to position plate 62 and the switches on the box 16. Plate 62 also has openings 64 aligned with threaded openings 54 in the switches and openings in a cover-plate ( 18, Fig. 3) for the reception of screws 70. If when one of the switches, e.g. 12, is " on " it is subjected to excess current, a melting alloy overload unit (36, Fig. 3) allows the switch contacts to open, the switch handle remaining " on ". Subsequent manual operation of the handle from " on " towards " off " causes the handle to snap to a " tripped " position between the dead-centre and the " off " position. The switch is reset by moving the handle from the " tripped " to the off " position. The interlock members 80, 81 prevent actuation of one of the switches when the other switch is in a " tripped " position.
