1312153 Actuation of metal clad switches ARROW-HART Inc 10 Aug 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 38422/70 Heading H1N The actuating mechanism of a switch is mounted on and interlocked with the lid 12 of a casing 10, the mechanism being coupled to the switch in all positions of the lid. A handle 14 pivoted on a shaft 15 is coupled by the snap action mechanism of Specification 1,312,154 to slide two plates 32, 34 back and forth perpendicularly to the plane of drawing. The ends of these plates are formed into concentric arcs centred on the hinge 13 of the lid and co-operate with a slide 25 in the casing 10. A member 36 slidable between the concentric arcs of plates 32, 34, extends the arcs in the fully open position of the lid. Slide 25 is coupled by a bell crank 23 with a U-shaped lever 22 whose arms are pivoted at 21 to the side walls of the casing. The lever 22 moves a contact carrier 20 in a slideway to move a bridging, spring clip contact 19. Interlocking mechanisms are provided (Figs. 3, 8, not shown) to prevent opening of the lid while the switch is closed and to prevent closing of the switch while the lid is open. The latter can be defeated manually to allow the contacts to be closed with the lid open and the mechanisms are such that the switch can still be operated to the open position and the lid can be closed.
