Abstract

1405451 Retractive switches; snap action BURGESS MICROSWITCH CO Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [6 Jan 1972] 536/72 Heading H1N The actuating mechanism of a snap-acting reactive switch includes an intermediate lever 20 pivoted at 24 between the side walls of the switch housing with its free end 26 located beneath the flange 30 of a slidable actuator 22 which projects from the housing. Projection 28 on the lever engages a tension spring 14 intermediate its length, the spring being attached at one end to an upstanding post of a fixed anchor member 2 and at the other end to a movable contact arm 6 which is then held in pivoted bearing engagement at 8, 10 with a projecting part of the anchor member. In the rest position of the switch the spring is slightly deflected by the projection to provide a restoring force to the actuator and to retain the movable contact arm 6 in engagement with a fixed contact 16, and when the actuator is depressed the spring is further deflected to an overcentre position so that the movable contact arm snaps over to engage a further fixed contact 18. The length of the lever 20 and the position of the projection 28 can be varied to suit the operating force requirements.
