Abstract

421,416. Snap-action switches; switch covers. WEEKES (LUTON), Ltd., L., Langley Street, and DRYDEN, T. H., 3, Downs Road, both in Luton. June 19, 1933, Nos. 17422 and 25896. [Class 38 (v)] [See also Group XXXVI] The movable contacts 30 of a switch-fuse are in the form of blades each secured to one side of an insulating member 32 connected to the actuating mechanism, bent under said insulating member, and then bent downwardly towards the coacting fixed contacts 38, the fuses 31 being disposed closely adjacent to the associated contact blades and below the associated member 32. The contacts 30 and fuse carrying means 35 are secured to the members 32 by common screws 34. The members 32 are carried between bars 17 mounted on a vertical rod 16 carried by the switch cover 6. A handle 9 operates through snap-action overset-toggle mechanism 22-25, a buffer spring being provided, and all the moving parts being carried by the cover. The handle 9 is interlocked with the cover which cannot be opened with the switch on. Insulating shields 40, 42 and 43 are provided over the fixed contacts 38, between the poles of the switch, and underneath the actuating mechanism. The terminal blocks 44 associated with the fixed contacts have two or more wings formed with holes 47 at an angle for receiving the cable. Diametrically opposed screw-holes 49 receive either clamping screws for the cable or fixing screws so that the blocks may be reversed to give inwardly or outwardly inclined reception holes, longitudinally directed holes being available in either case.
