Abstract

406,834. Heavy-current switches. ELLISON, Ltd., G., and ANDERSON, J., Perry Barr, Birmingham. Nov. 29, 1932, No. 33754. [Class 38 (v).] Heavy-current switches comprise a series of separable contact pieces carried by pivoted linkage, the arrangement being such that the contacts can be caused to separate from each other simultaneously by movement of the linkage, for the purpose of dividing up the arc. In the double-pole switch shown, two sets of contact bars b are carried by pivoted insulating links a interconnected by a rod e connected to an operating lever f. A spring h serves to hold the contact bars in their separated condition, and a catch may be provided to hold them together in the 'on' position of the switch. In a modification, the contacts may be arranged at the intersecting parts of a lazy-tongs mechanism. In another modification, Fig. 4, each contact piece consists of a pair of strips b, b<1> held together by means of springs, the strips having bevelled edges as shown.
