Abstract
650,427. Cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1945, No. 23144. [Class 36] A concentric conductor cable comprises a tubular inner conductor, formed of copper tape or tapes 1 having abutting longitudinal edges 2, and held spaced from the outer conductor (not shown) by spacers of dielectric material, each spacer being in two or more parts 4, 5 together forming a complete washer which exerts a wedging action on the tape to hold the edges 2 in abutting relation. The edges of the tape may be provided with teeth 3 underlying the inner sides of the opposite edges as described in Specification 476,098. The spacers 4, 5 are preferably made of a low-loss thermoplastic material, such as solid polymer of ethylene, expanded into a porous honey-comb structure as described in Specification 584,153, so that pressure on the inner conductor 1 is evenly distributed. The parts of the spacers abut along lines 6, 7 tangential to the inner conductor 1, and may be held together either by a wrapping of polythene tape 8, 9, or by forming the outer conductor round them, or by extruding a thin walled tube of insulating material round them.
