[Class 60] A portable grinding-machine for finishing slideways of machine beds has three or more grinding heads located close to each of three or more rollers that rest on the slideways to be ground. The rollers 17, 18 and 19 are fitted adjustably for height, angle and position in grooves 32 under a base 5 which is traversed up and down the slideways by a reversible motor 40 having a drum 42 round which is wound a cable 41 attached to removable brackets 43 at the ends of the bed. A frame 13 carrying grinding heads 20, 21 and 22, also adjusted for height, angle and position, is tiltably mounted on the base by means of a shaft 10 engaging a centre block 9 on a shaft 8 journalled in brackets 6 on 'the base, the shafts being rotatable by micrometer screws ball-jointed to levers 15 on the shafts. The block 9 may be replaced by a ball-bearing 50a, Fig. 15, upon which are superimposed segments 50, 51 having tongue and slot connections 52, 53. For finishing the portion of the flat slideway 4 not finished by the head 21, the head 22 over the slideway 3 may be adjusted along the side of the frame 13 until over the slideway 4, or the end of the frame may be arcuate so that the head 21 may be adjusted round to the required position; alternatively, the roller 19 may have a curved bracket that engages the base 5 inwardly of the slideway 4 and allows the motor and shaft of grinding head 21 to be raised and moved along the top of the frame over the roller or, again, two heads may be mounted on either side of the roller 19. The frame may also be rectangular so that it is more easily machined and so that the heads are more easily interchangeable. The rollers corresponding to the grinding heads may be duplicated, one on each side of the head.
