Abstract

650,313. Eddy current brakes. ARON ELECTRICITY METER, Ltd., and RIORDAN, E. J. Sept. 11, 1947, No. 24983. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVI] Brake magnet assembly devised for an induction type watt-hour meter comprises an L-shaped flat plate 1 with the yoke 5 of the U-shaped magnet disposed in a slot 4 in the lower edge of horizontal plate limb 3 and the inner face of one magnet limb 8 secured against the adjacent flat face of the plate limb 3, for example, by means of posts 10 and a strap 9. A strip 6 secures the yoke hard up in the slot 4. Preferably the yoke 5 is slightly proud of the lower edge of the plate limb 3 and similarly the magnet limb 8 in relation to the posts 10. The complementary magnetic member or keeper 11 is fixed to the top of the vertical limb of the plate 1. The calibrating shunt 14 is threaded on a screw 15 supported at its ends in brackets 16 17 fixed to the plate 1. The shunt 14 is of partconical shape at 14a and bears against the plate 1. By adjustment of the screw 15 the position of the shunt 14 between the poles 18 is changed and it is stated that the ratio between the number of turns of screw 15 and the percentage change in the speed of the meter disc 19 is constant throughout the range of adjustment. The assembly is fixed in the meter by means of slots 2, 2 in the horizontal plate limb 3. A conductor may be inserted between the poles 18 for the purposes of " magnetic flashing."
