Abstract
537,128. Compensating meters for temperature errors. VENNER TIME SWITCHES, Ltd., MATTHEWS, S. J., and DEAN, A. W. Dec. 12, 1939, No. 32024. [Class 37] A permanent magnet is provided with a magnetic shunt of a material of which the permeability varies with rise of temperature in such a sense that the flux density in the gap between the poles of the magnet remains constant. The C-shaped permanent magnet 1 of an A.C. energy meter is provided with a shunt 2 composed of a material the permeability of which decreases with rise of temperature. The shunt may be a single U-shaped lamination having the extremities 2a, 2b of its limbs cranked or offset and fixed to the corresponding side faces of the poles 1a, 1b of the magnet so that the major part of the shunt 2 is parallel with but spaced slightly from the face of the magnet 1. The meter may also be provided with the temperature corrected quadrature ring described in Specification 537,129.
