714,269. Eddy-current brakes. SMITH METERS, Ltd., and ANGOLD, H. E. Nov. 14, 1952 [Nov. 14, 1951], No. 26712/51. Class 35 A brake device for electricity disc meters has two permanent magnets 4 located one on either side of the disc, one of which has an adjustable magnetic shunt 7 to regulate the speed of the disc for calibration while the other has a temperature compensating shunt member 6 of magnetic material. The two magnets 4 are supported by a carrier 5 mounted on brackets 9 in a manner permitting it to be swung towards and away from the disc for coarse adjustment.
