[Class 35] In Fig. 1 the U-shaped brake magnet 1 with both poles on one side of the meter disc 20 is equipped with an adjustable shunt in the form of a pivoted vane 6, Fig. 4, shaped as shown to ensure a substantially straight line law of adjustment, Fig. 6 (not shown). The vane 6 is carried by a gear-wheel 7 pivoted at 8 and meshing with a pinion 13 on adjustment screw. 12. As the latter is turned the position of the vane 6 relative to magnet poles 1 is indicated by a line engraved on gear-wheel 7 which is visible through an arcuate slot 14 in the mounting- plate 9, and against a scale on the latter graduated in 10 degree units. The steps involved in shaping the vane 6 are given in Fig. 5 (not shown). In Fig. 1 the yoke 2 is extended to provide poles on the opposite side of the disc 20. In modifications, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), an independent U-shaped magnet or bar of magnet material mounted on the opposite side of the disc 20 takes the place of the yoke as means completing the magnetic circuit of the main U-shaped magnet 1. The Provisional Specification states that a perforated vane may be used and that the adjustable shunt disclosed may be introduced in brake magnet structures comprising (a) a single permanent magnet with one pole above and one below the disc; (b) two permanent magnets each with a pole above and a pole below the disc.
