957,517. Eddy-current brakes. MAGNETFABRIK GEWERKSCHAFT WINDHORST. July 8, 1960, No. 23914/60. Heading H2A. An eddy-current brake for use in an electric induction meter comprises a permanent magnet 10 adjustably rotatably mounted by a screw 13 on one limb of a generally U-shaped soft iron holder 9, the magnet presenting two pole faces of unlike polarity N, S towards the other limb and the latter having an opening through which the screw is accessible. The magnet, which may be of a ceramic composition or an ironnickel-aluminium-cobalt alloy, is arranged in a die-cast metal mounting 11 having teeth which mesh with a worm 15 mounted in a support 16 and whose ends are slotted at 17 to permit rotation of the magnet. Temperature compensation may be provided by a plate or wire, not shown, of a negative magnetic temperature coefficient alloy arranged as a shunt in the magnet groove that defines the poles. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 769,262.
