648,397. Stapling. HARDING, W. E. Oct. 16, 1947, No. 27704. [Class 89(iii)] A stapling machine operable by a hand lever 28 or by a treadle comprises a base 10 provided with vertical guide posts 15, 16 on which is slidable a head 14 carrying a staple magazine 54 and a driver mounted on a rod 22 operable against a spring 33 after the head has engaged the work. Adjustable side guides 65 are provided for the work. The leading staple is held in position, until driven, by a spring-pressed ball engaging thereunder. A staple pusher 56 is held retracted against the action of a spring 59 during loading by engagement with a notch 61 in the staple magazine which is provided with a hinged cover 62.
