[Class 89 (iii)] A hand tool for nailing comprises a driver which is cocked and then released for 'its driving stroke by pressure on a trigger, and a rotary magazine mounted adjacent to the driving nozzle and adapted automatically to supply successive nails to the nozzle in time with the strokes of the driver. As shown, the trigger 14 is connected by a pivoted link 15 to a lever 12 pivoted at 13 in the handle 11 of the tool and urged in an anticlockwise direction by a spring 19. A bracket 22 pivoted'to the lever 12 and biased by a spring 36 has pivoted to it a detent lever 24 which is biased by a spring 30 and has a hook 32 adapted to engage in front of a lug 33 on the rear extension 34 of the driver 35, which is slidable within the barrel portion 10 of the tool and has a reduced extremity 41 operating in the nozzle 68. Normally, the detent lever, 24 is held against rotation in a clockwise'direction by the engagement of its tail 26 with' an extension 27 of'the lever 12. When'the trigger 14 is pressed, the lever 12 and detent lever 24 retract the driver against its 'spring 40 until the extension 27 moves clear'of the tail 26. The spring 40 then overcomes the spring 30 and the driver is released for its driving stroke. The nail magazine comprises rotatable discs 51 and a fixed trough 53 mounted on an inclined spindle 54. The discs 51 are slotted to receive nails 52 by their heads., and are rotated step-by-step by a ratchet 56 and a pawl 57 operated by a rod 63 and a plate 64 on the lever 12. Successive nails are thus presented in horizontal position to the driver nozzle, which comprises two upper jaws 43 which are held closed by a light spring 47 and a lower jaw 44 adapted to be opened bodily, in time with the steps of the discs 51, by a lever 48 operated by a second pawl which engages the ratchet 56, so as'to provide a free entry for successive nails into the nozzle. Alternatively, the nails may be supplied to the nozzle by a paper strip. A fixed guard may be provided to keep the ends of the nozzle jaws clear of the work into which nails are to be driven. The tool may be adapted for operation pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically by arranging for the lever 12 to be swung by an eccentric driven, for example, by an .electric motor mounted on the handle, the lug 33 being provided on a bell-crank lever pivoted to the hammer so as to be moved into position to co-operate with the hook 32 when the trigger is depressed.
