Abstract

749,149. Nailing. HJELMQUIST, S. Feb. 17, 1954 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4674/54. Class 89 (3). In a pistol-like nailing device, nails 10 are supplied to a nozzle 18 from a magazine 40 in which they are supported on a cylindrical cardboard tube 11 being arranged in holes positioned along a helical line on the tube with their heads outwards. The tube is mounted for step-bystep rotation with a disc 42 and is fed upwards by the engagement of the nail heads with a helical groove 12 in the magazine wall or by the engagement of the nail tips with a similar groove in a central rod in the magazine. At each operation of the device by a trigger 13, an electric motor 24 is operated to move a pin 35 carried by a slide 34 to push a nail 10 from the tube 11 into a passage 22 in a disc 19, and to withdraw a piston 28 carrying a nail driver 30 against a spring 29 and then release it to drive a nail. At the same time a rack carried by the trigger 13 operates a shaft 14 through a toothed wheel so as to rotate the discs 19 and 42. The trigger is returned to its normal position by a cam driven by the motor 24. The cardboard tube 11 is cut into a strip which goes to waste by a cutter 36 on the slide 34. Continuous operation of the motor to give a succession of hammer strokes without the feeding of nails may be effected by a trigger 38 which holds the motor switch closed.
