Abstract
Salts are made from mucamic acid and one of the following bases:- morphine, diamorphine, dihydromorphinone, methyldihydromorphinone, amidone, hyoseine and its amino oxide, hyoxyamine and its amino oxide, atropine and its amino oxide, ergometrine, D-tubocurarine and its alkyl ethers (e.g. dimethyl) and alkyl esters, compounds of the general formula <FORM:0647861/IV (b)/1> where R1 is hydrogen, aryl, hydroxy or alkoxy, R2 is hydrogen, hydroxy or alkoxy, R3 is hydrogen, hydroxy or alkoxy, R4 is hydrogen or alkyl and R5 is hydrogen or alkyl (e.g. adrenaline), procaine, amethocaine and neostigmine. The salts are produced by direct reaction between the base and mucamic acid or by double decomposition between a salt of the base and an alkali, alkaline earth, magnesium, ammonium or silver mucamate. The products may be obtained in solid form by concentrating their aqueous solutions under reduced pressure and drying in vacuo or by freeze-drying. Examples are given.ALSO:Therapeutic solutions of mucamates of organic bases are made containing excess of mucamic acid for stability or excess of alkali mucamate to adjust the tonicity. Examples show solutions of mucamic acid with the mucamates of adrenaline, D-tubocurarine, procaine, amidone, morphine, ergometrine and isopropyl noi-adrenaline, and a solution containing neostigmine mucamate, mucamic acid and sodium mucamate.
