[Class 60] A sanding machine having an endless abrasive band passing over a pair of pulleys and a table positioned between the pulleys so as to support one lap of the belt is characterized in that the axis of one pulley is coincident with the axis of rotation of an electric driving motor, and the table and the other pulley are adjustable about said axis. The electric driving motor 1 has a casing 2 provided with feet 3 by which it may be bolted on a work-bench, with the armature shaft 4 extending horizontally. One pulley 8 is mounted on the end of the armature shaft 4, the other pulley 9 being mounted by a belt tracking and tensioning device 19, on the free end of the table 6 connected with a bracket 5 adjustably attached to the motor casing in such manner that it may be swung about the armature shaft 4 between the position in which the table 6 is vertical, and the position in which it is horizontal. A fixing plate 11 forming part of the bracket 5 has arcuate slots 12, 13 through which bolts or studs 14, 15 extend into an end member or cap 16 fixed to the motor casing. The end member 16 may have an arcuate slot 17, a bolt or stud 18 extending through this into the fixing plate 11. The tracking and tensioning device 19 comprises a U-shaped member 20 attached to the underside of the table 6 and having legs 20a, 20b slotted at their outer ends to receive the pulley spindle 22 which is engaged by adjustment screws 23a, 23b. A fence 24 is carried by a wall 23 at one side of the fixing plate 11, a clamping bolt 29 extends through a slot 26 in the wall 23 and slots 28 in rear flanges 27 on the fence 24. A side fence 31 may be fixed to the face of the fence 24 by clamping bolt 32 extending through slot 33. In a modification, the end member or cap 16 may protrude upwards from a member upon which the motor rests (e.g. to which the motor is secured as to a bed plate); in a further modification, the end member 16 protrudes upwards from a mounting member serving as a means whereby the sander may be mounted in position, and the motor is mounted on the end member, e.g. the motor is fixed to one face of the end member and the bracket 5 to the opposite face.
