[Class 60] Relates to a die - polishing machine comprising a head-stock 6, carrying a driven chuck 19, and a carriage 57 which is adjustable longitudinally and transversely of the base 1 and carries a polishing needle or lap 54 in a collet 55 on a spindle 56. According to the invention, the headstock 6 is automatically oscillated simultaneously with rotation of the chuck, and the part 58 of the carriage 57 carrying the collet spindle is mounted for swivelling movement, whereby a radiused entrance is formed automatically on the die 21 by positive movement of the chuck in an arcuate path and the similar movement of the lap 54 produced by the die 21 in the moving chuck. The chuck 19 and the lap 54 are rotated, preferably at different speeds and opposite directions, from stepped pulleys on a main shaft which is journalled in the base and rotated by an electric motor. Another pulley on the shaft drives a worm 41 to rotate an adjustable crank 39 and so oscillate the headstock 6 through an adjustable yoke 35. The crank drive may be disconnected and the headstock clamped in a position adjusted by a scale 51 or centralized by a locating peg 53. The chuck is balanced by a fly-wheel 27. The part 58 is freely mounted by rollers 62 to swivel against the restraint of a spring or weight, its movement being limited by pegs in a slot 66. The part 58 is also provided with a scale so that it may be clamped in selected position, and pegs are provided whereby it may be centralized with the transversely-adjustable slide part 59 or with both the slide 59 and the longitudinally-adjustable slide 60. The slide 60 is adjusted by hand, freely or by screw means, along guide-rods 64. The members 58, 59 and 60 and their adjusting means are similar in other respects with those described in Specification 624,195, [Group XXII].
