Abstract
647,801. Cutting-out presses. VICKERSARMSTRONGS, Ltd. Jan. 22, 1948, No. 1989. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] A cutting out press has an impression plate which can be moved from its normal position against the face of an oscillating platen to a raised position to afford access to the surface of the platen by a mechanism comprising levers, pivoted in the platen, having supports which engage guiding surfaces provided on the impression plate. The impression plate 1 is moved to the raised position, Fig. 2, by the operation of levers 10, 11, and has end flanges 2 which rest over the sides of the platen 3. The impression plate 1 is guided for a parallel movement with respect to the plane of the platen by a central slot 4 and pin 5 and, at each end of the flanges 2, by tranverse inwardly-extending open slots 6 in which pins 7 carried on the ends of levers 10, 11 engage and impart the shifting movement, The movement is effected by the operation of a handle 14 secured between extensions of each pair of levers 10. A spring-loaded catch 15 locks the levers and the impression plate in the rest or raised position by its engagement with notches in a sector 16 secured on the side of the platen 3. Release is effected by rotating the handle 14 which is connected to the catch and can be turned relatively to the levers 10. In the normal position the pins 7 are at the outer end of slots 6 but in the raised position they slide inwardly of the machine and out of the slots so that the impression plate may be lifted from the platen. In order to prevent operation of the machine whilst the impression plate is in the raised position an interlocking device is connected between one lever 10 and a machine operating pedal 22, and comprises a link 20 connecting the lever 10 with one end of a lever 18 pivoted about a pin 17 so that when the impression plate is raised the other end 18a of the lever 18 obstructs the path of a lever 19 secured on the shaft 21 of the operating pedal 22.
