A wringer comprises a frame 2 carrying wringer rolls 7, 8, a top member 5, one end of which is pivotally connected at 6 to a head 1, means carried by the top member for applying pressure to the rolls, a toggle 19, 20 pivotally connecting the other end of the top member 5 to the frame 2, a pin 24 carried by the toggle, a lever 25, 26 pivoted at 27 on the frame and having a nose 28 which engages over the top of the pin to lock the toggle to latch the top member to the frame, an axially movable control shaft 12 in the head, a spring 35 which biases an arm 33 pivoted at 34 on the head into engagement with a projection 36 on the shaft 12, and a rod 31 which connects the arm 33 to the lever 25, 26. When the shaft 12 is moved axially in either direction, the projection 36 which may comprise a thin disc, is moved out of contact with the arm 33 and the spring 35 is effective to move the lever 25, 26 to release the toggle 19, 20 to permit of upward movement of the top member 5 to release the roll pressure. The wringer is reset by pressing down the toggle link 20 so that the pin 24 engages a finger 29 on the bell-crank lever 25, 26 to bring the nose 28 over the top of pin 24, and through rod 31 to turn arm 33 from its position beside the disc 36 so that the disc can be returned by means of springs (not shown) to its position in line with the arm 33. The shaft 12 carries a handle 13 at each end and can be rotated to operate a reversing clutch as described in Specification 562,164 without disturbing the latching mechanism.
