Abstract

N - acetyl - a - acetoxy - a : a - diphenylacetamide is prepared by treatment of 1 mol. of benzilic acid amide with at least 2 mols. of acetic anhydride in presence of sulphuric acid. The excess of acetic anhydride serves as a solvent. An example is given in which the reaction temperature is allowed to rise to 65 DEG C.
