Abstract

a -Hydroxy- and a -acyloxy-oximes are obtained by reacting nitrosyl sulphuric acid with a compound R1R2C = CHR, where R, R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, or R1 and R2 or R1 and R represent part of a cycloaliphatic ring closed by CH2 groups and having 4-12 carbon atoms, the reaction being carried out in the presence of H2SO4 for a -hydroxy-oximes, or in the presence of an alkanoic acid for a -acyloxy-oximes, with the reaction product in either case being treated with water. Solvents may be used. The compounds a -hydroxypropionaldoxime, a - hydroxy - cyclopentanoneoxime, 3 - hydroxypentan - 2 - one - oxime, 3 - acetoxy - pentan - 2 - one - oxime, a - propionoxy - cyclohexanone - oxime and a -acetoxy-cyclooctanone-oxime are claimed as novel, and are compared in characteristics with the products obtained by direct oximation of the hydroxy-carbonyl compound. Heating a -hydroxy-propionaldoxime with acetic anhydride gave lactonitrile acetate.
