[Class 37] The voltage to be measured is applied at A, B, to vary the potential of the grid 1 of a cold cathode tube 3 relative to the cathode 2, so that when key 7 is closed, condenser 5 is charged to a point where the tube 3 discharges, this point being related to the potential between A and B ; condenser 5 is thus charged and discharged continuously, the condenser 11 thus being charged periodically to a value dependent on the maximum charge developed by condenser 5; the discharge through resistance 10 and meter 9 is thus a measure of the potential at AB.
