602,738. Resistance measurements. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., DOUGHTY, E. H., and WARDLE, L. G. Feb. 22, 1945. No. No. 4510. [Class 37] In an arrangement for measuring a small current passing through a high resistance, e.g. the leakage current through an insulator R1, a selected known resistance R2 is connected in series with R1 across a high voltage source T1, T2. On depression of a push-button B, the voltage drop across resistance R2 is connected in series opposition with a measured source of voltage P2 across the grid resistance R4 of a " magic eye " tube V2 which is normally in a " partially-open '' condition. P2 is adjusted until the depression of button B causes no change in the condition of the tube V2 when the voltage across R2 is the same as that taken from potentiometer P2. Hence, the current through resistance R1 is known and its resistance may be calculated. A neon tube V1 is arranged to shunt R2 in case of the breakdown of the high resistance R1. Condensers C1, C2 are smoothing condensers used when the direct current sources are derived from rectifiers.
