Abstract

506,173. Resistance measurements. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd., and PERRY, C. E. Nov. 23, 1937, No. 32261. [Class 37] An ohmmeter comprising a crossed-coil instrument has a variable resistance in the deflecting coil circuit, and switching means, so that before a measurement is made, the resistance of that circuit can be brought up to the calibration figure for the purpose of correcting for any extraneous resistance such as that 'due to earth spikes. The circuit of the deflecting-coil 1, includes a variable resistor 7 in series with the test probes p<SP>1</SP>, p<SP>2</SP>, the preliminary adjustment being effected with the switch 6 in its right-hand position through which current flows from the source 5. Thereafter, the measurement is made with switch 6 in its left-hand position. In a modification, alternating-current is passed through the resistance tested by employing two commutators as described in Specification 249,615, [Class 37]. A further modification provides for four operating ranges with shunt and series resistors.
