570,966. Potential dividers. WHITE, E. L. C., JOHNSON, L. R. J., and NIND, E. A. Aug. 16, 1943. No. 13240. [Class 40 (iii)] A potential-divider is provided with shunt capacities C1 ... CN so related to the resistance sections and to the stray capacities that if the assemblage could be separated into a purely resistive and a purely capacitive network, the voltage would be divided in the same ratio at corresponding points of the two'networks. An example is given of an arrangement in which the resistances are equal and a method of calculation of the resistances when the. capacities are equal. Fig. 4 shows a method of construction, the impedance elements being connected to rings on an insulating rod and surrounded by a shield 22. An alternative divider is shown in Fig. 5. Here each tapping point of the resistive divider is connected to the tapping point of a separate capacitive divider which divides the voltage in the same ratio as the resistive divider at that point. The resistances may have separate shields, each connected to one end of its resistance, the shields being fitted to insulating separators to give a rod-like structure. In a further arrangement, Fig. 7, the shield 31 provides one plate for each of the two potential dividing condensers, the other being shown at 34, 35.
