Abstract
617,217. Power meters. GORDON, D. S., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELEC - TRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 15, 1946, No. 24305. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL (c)] A tuned resistive dipole 2, absorbing the power to be measured from a resonant cavity, is placed in a water duct 1, and in the same duct is placed a known resistance 4 supplied with a measured current at a measured voltage. The temperature difference at the ends of the dipole resistance 3 is compared with the temperature difference at the ends of the known resistance 4 by means of temperature-responsive elements connected differentially to a galvanometer, thus comparing the power dissipated by the dipole with the known power dissipated by the resistance. At very high frequencies the water duct itself may be made to act as a dipole.
