[Class 37] A resistance-measuring device comprising a moving coil in series with a current limiting resistance has the range changed by shunting the moving coil and part only of the limiting resistance. As shown, a generator G supplies the crossed coils C, D of a ratiometer, coil D being in series with a current limiting resistance A, B and the resistance to be measured connected between L, E. To change the range, coil D and part A of the limiting resistance is shunted by resistance S. The Specification describes how the resistances A, B and S are calculated to give two scales, one starting at zero resistance and the other at 8 or 15 megohms.
