520,976. Current measurements. FIDES GES. FUR DIE VERWALTUNG UND VERWERTUNG VON GEWERBLICHEN SCHUTZRECHTEN. Nov. 5, 1938, No. 32139. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1937. [Class 37] A thermo-converter for measuring highfrequency currents has a compensating resistance connected in parallel with the heating resistance and so dimensioned that the power converted into heat in the heating resistance is independent of frequency, thereby compensating for errors due to skin effect. Two terminal blocks 4, 5 of copper mounted on an insulating base 3 are provided with central terminals 6, 7 for the high-frequency current to be measured. Stretched between the blocks 4, 5 is a heating resistance 1 having connected to its centre a thermo-element 8 to which a D.C. instrument 9 is connected. A compensating resistance 2, of the same material as the heating resistance 1 but of shorter length, is connected between the blocks 4, 5 by means of extension copper conductors 10, 11. In an example, the heating-resistance 1 is of constantan wire 2 cm. long and 0.1mm. diameter and the compensating resistance 2 is a constantan wire 1 cm. long and 0.045 mm. diameter. Alternatively, the resistances 1, 2 may be of the same length but different materials, the extension conductors 10, 11 then being omitted.
