Abstract
635,235. Power meters. MILLING, M. C. CROWLEY-, and METROPOLITAN VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1947, No. 3736. [Class 37] A device for measuring H.F. power consists of a low-frequency A.C. bridge circuit ABCD, wherein three arms are resistances and the fourth AC is a thermistor type resistance T. The output voltage is amplified and applied to a mixer M, the output of which is rectified and heats the thermistor. The mixer is so biassed by the source supplying the bridge that its output with zero input brings the thermistor to the condition in which the bridge is balanced. When H.F. power also is fed to the thermistor via terminals R.F., the temperature of the thermistor rises and the resulting unbalance voltage reduces the output of the mixer so that the temperature of the thermistor only changes slightly and the bridge is only slightly unbalanced. The change in current from the rectifier as shown on the meter G indicates the change in the heating of the thermistor due to the applied H.F., and by suitable calibration, the meter G can provide a direct indication of the applied H.F. power.
