Abstract
688,995. Resistance measurement. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1951 [Dec. 22, 1950], No. 31255/50. Class 37. To measure earth resistance between electrodes P1, P2, A.C. is supplied over the primary 3 of transformer 4 to electrodes C1, C2, and its secondary feeds a variable resistance 7, the A.C. across which is opposed to that developed between electrodes PI, P2; resistance 7 is adjusted until the meter 6 reads zero, the relationship between X, the unknown resistance, and 7 then depending on the ratio of the transformer. Preferably, the A.C. is derived from a hand generator 1, and the meter fed over a mechanical rectifier 11 driven in step with the generator. The primary winding 3 is preferably tapped to provide several ratios. The circuit has the advantage that the resistance C, D of the electrodes P1, P2 is eliminated from the result.
