645,777. Magnetic tests and measurements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MATTHEWS, A. Aug. 4, 1948, No. 20607. [Class 37] In apparatus for measuring the thickness of a non-magnetic coating on a magnetic base of the kind in which the test piece completes the magnetic circuit of a transformer, the magnetic circuit is first completed by an uncoated member of the same material and thickness as the base of the articles to be tested and its permeability is adjusted to bring the output of the transformer to a standard value by varying a direct current in the primary winding 2 or in a separate winding. The instrument 4 connected to the secondary winding may thus be calibrated in thickness since the above procedure compensates for errors due to variations in the thickness and material of the base in different articles tested.
