761,903. Measuring liquid conductivity. WAYNE KERR LABORATORIES, Ltd., and CALVERT, R. April 4, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9686/54. Class 37. Apparatus for measuring the electrical conductivity of a liquid comprises an inductive ratio arm bridge having two transformers which are of toroidal form and so mounted as a unit that when immersed in a liquid they would be coupled by the loop of liquid extending through and around the cores, the input transformer being energized from an A.C. source and having a winding connected in a circuit to apply a voltage across an adjustable impedance in series with a winding on the other transformer, the latter also having a winding connected to a detector. As shown, the secondary 12 of transformer 10 is coupled through a variable impedance, calibrated in terms of conductivity, with the primary 14 of a transformer 15 connected to a detector 17. Both transformers are of toroidal form and arranged coaxially in a potting material to provide a passage of uniform section through the transformer cores for the flow of the test liquid. In this way current is induced in the liquid and thus in the winding 14, and impedance 13 is adjusted to balance the induced currents in the winding and so obtain a measure of the conductivity.
