[Class 37] [Also in Group XL (c)] A device for measuring and indicating the phase difference between two applied signals has input terminals 31 and 32. Input 31 feeds in parallel valves 29 and 30 so that similar phased signals are generated in tuned circuits 43 and 44. Signals from input 32 are also divided into two parts feeding transformers 36 and 37, but owing to the network 34, 35 the signals in these transformers are in phase quadrature. Tuned circuit 43 is connected to a bridge modulator circuit including rectifiers 45, 46 arranged so that the signals therefrom are mixed with the output of transformer 37 to give an output voltage at c, d, that is a function of the phase difference of the applied oscillations. A similar bridge circuit mixes the output of circuit 44 and transformer 37 so that its output at e, f, is also a function of the phase difference of the signals applied. If conjugate coils 57, 58 of an indicator with a full sweep pointer are connected to c, d and e, f, the currents in them will be proportional to the sine and cosine respectively of the angular phase difference between the applied signals and the pointer will take up a position indicating the angle.
