Abstract
Textile fabrics containing yarns of staple fibres of an organic derivative of cellulose are coloured by mechanically impregnating them with a solution of a dye in a mixture of water and an aliphatic monohydric alcohol containing up to five carbon atoms, which solution also contains an inorganic thiocyanate which is a swelling agent for the cellulose derivative, and thereafter scouring the fabric. The amount of alcohol is 60 per cent or more, and of thiocyanate 1 to 3 per cent, of the weight of alcohol, water and thiocyanate together. In examples: (1) a fabric containing cellulose acetate staple fibres sized with a solution containing casein, triethanolamine and triethyl phosphate is padded with a dye solution containing 1.5 parts of 1,4-di-(methylamino)-anthraquinone, 60 parts of ethyl alcohol, 2 parts of sodium thiocyanate and 38 parts of water, and then scoured in a mixture containing sulphated lauryl alcohol, xylene and turkey red oil; (2) a fabric as in (1) is sized with a composition containing gelatine, sulphated fatty oil, fatty oil, soap, salt, diethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether and sodium ortho-phenyl phenate, padded with a dye solution containing 1.5 parts of 1-hydroxy-4-anthraquinone, 60 parts of ethyl alcohol, 2 parts of sodium thiocyanate and 38 parts of water, and then scoured as in (1).ALSO:Textile sizes for cellulose acetate fabrics consist of: (1) casein, triethanolamine, triethyl phosphate and water; and (2) gelatine, sulphonated fatty oil, fatty oil, soap, salt, diethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, sodium ortho-phenyl phenate and water.
