Abstract

539.486. Artificial filaments; films; dyestuff preparations; dyeing. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 11, 1940, No. 4504. Convention date, March 11, 1939. [Classes 2 (ii), 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] The fastness, especially to light and to combustion products of coal gas, of colorations on textile materials or fibres made of or containing a cellulose ester or ether is improved by depositing an alkylolamine on the coloured materials .and retaining it on or in the materials during any subsequent finishing operation. Specified alkylolamines are mono-, di- and tri - ethanolamines and mono-, di- and tri-propanolamines. The process is particularly applicable to colourations with amino- and alkylamino-anthraquinones. The alkylolamine may be deposited by a padding operation, with or without the simultaneous application of a soap such as sodium, potassium or triethanolamine oleate or stearate or of another finishing agent such as a sulphonated olive oil, a sulphonated oleyl alcohol, a white mineral oil, paraffin wax, glycerol boriborate, diethylene glycol stearate, aminostearin or Trocklin S and/or the separate or simultaneous application of a substance of alkaline reaction such as borax, sodium silicate, sodium carbonate, disodium hydrogen phosphate or sodium acetate. In an example, a cellulose acetate fabric, dyed with 1 : 4 - di - (methylamino)-anthraquinone, is scoured and padded with an aqueous solution of triethanolamine containing if desired, (a) a finishing oil; e.g. sulphonated olive oil or a sulphated oleyl alcohol or (b) a finish, e.g. glycerol boriborate or (c) a waterproofing agent, e.g. Trocklin S, and the padded fabric is dried. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) the application of the process to textile materials and films in general, (2) the deposition of the alkylolamine on the materials before or during the coloration, e.g. in the latter case, by adding to the dyebath a concentrated preparation containing the dyestuff and the alkylolamine, (3) incorporating the alkylolamine and, if desired, also the dyestuff in the solution from which the artificial silk or films are shaped. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
