Abstract

Lubricants for fibres of cellulose esters or ethers or of other material, are composed of a dihydric or polyhydric alcohol or a lower aliphatic ether thereof, and a soap or a saponifiable wax or a wax-like substance, e.g. woolfat alcohols, obtainable therefrom. Water, oils, e.g. olive, light mineral, or sulphonated oils, preferably with alkylol amine salts, and fugitive colours, e.g. acid dyestuffs may be added. Alcohols and ethers specified are glycerol, glycols, e.g. ethylene or propylene glycol, polyglycols, e.g. diethylene glycol, and the methyl and ethyl ethers of ethylene or diethylene glycol. The soaps preferred are those of ammonia or an alkylolamine. For example, there is applied to celluloseacetate yarn, 2--10 per cent of a mixture of (1) 1 lb. of triethanolamine oleate, 9 lb. of diethylene glycol, and a small amount of a fugitive colour, e.g. Erioglaucine, Acid Violet, or Acid Green; or of (2) 10 lb. of triethanolamine stearate, 45 lb. of mono-ethyl ether of diethylene glycol, and 45 lb. of diethylene glycol.
