Abstract

An aqueous hair dyeing composition includes, in addition to oxidation dyes such as p-toluylenediamine, a water-soluble aliphatic polyhydroxy compound, such as sorbitol, glycol, pentaerythritol or glycerine, and an alkanolamine, each alkanol radical of which has less than 7 carbon atoms or a salt thereof, e.g., diethanolamine, triethanolamine and tripropanolamine. The pH of the composition is preferably adjusted to 7-9 by the addition of an ammonium salt. The composition, which may be employed as a paste, may also contain surface-active agents such as the sodium salt of sulphonated paraffin oil, thickening agents such as carboxymethyl cellulose, alginates, polyacrylates or gum tragacanth, and also fatty alcohols, water-soluble wax derivatives and liquid hydrocarbons. Examples are given.
