Abstract

Liquid shampoo preparations are prepared by dissolving such true sulphonates of the formula R-SO3-Me, where R is an aliphatic residue containing at least ten carbon atoms and optionally amino or ester linkages, and Me is a salt forming cation such as sodium, potassium, ammonium or an organic base, or compounds of the formula R-PO3-Me, as are insufficiently soluble in water alone, in a mixture of water and a water-miscible solvent so as to obtain clear solutions containing about 20 per cent or more of the said compounds. Suitable water-miscible solvents are lower alcohols ketones, esters, ethers or high sulphonated oils. Other materials may be added such as hormones, lecithin, cholesterin, resins, etheric oils, balsams and colloidal sulphur. Preparations specified in examples are: (1) sodium salt of oleic acid-taurine condensate, isopropyl alcohol, water and lactic acid; (2) sodium salt of oleic acid-taurine condensate, highly sulphonated castor oil and water, and (3) the sodium salt of the same condensate or of oleic acid-ethionic acid condensate, acetone or propyl or isopropyl alcohol or methyl acetate, and water. Specification 401,413, [Group III], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to sodium, potassium, ammonium and triethanolamine salts of sulphonated higher aliphatic alcohols, such as the sodium salt of lauryl sulphonic acid ester, and to solutions of protective colloids as additional ingredients, and includes an additional example according to which the preparation contains sodium salts of oleic-acid-taurine condensate and of acid lauryl sulphonic acid ester, ethyl and isopropyl alcohols, water and highly sulphonated castor oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
