Abstract
Textile materials made of or containing acetone-soluble cellulose acetate fibres are coloured by incorporating in the materials by mechanical impregnation a solution of a dye in a liquid consisting substantially of acetone and water and containing from 20 to 50 per cent of acetone. The dyeing may be topped by a further dyeing from an aqueous bath free from acetone. In examples, (1) a cellulose acetate fabric of shark-skin weave is padded with an aqueous solution at 25 DEG C. containing about 40 per cent of acetone and containing Celliton fast blue AF and the orange dye, 2-chloro-6-bromo4 - nitro - aniline --> N - di - (b - hydroxyethyl)-3-chloroaniline, dried by passing it through air heated to 92 DEG C., rinsed and topped by treatment for 4 hours with an aqueous solution at 80 DEG C. containing the same two dyes with soda ash, triethanolamine and soap; (2) a similar fabric is similarly dyed with the additional use in each dyeing liquor of the golden yellow dye, 4 - chloro - 2 - nitro - 41 - methyl - diphenylamine; (3) a cellulose acetate-wool mixed fabric is padded with a similar aqueous acetone solution containing Celliton fast blue AF, the red dye, 1 : 4-aminohydroxyanthraquinone and the golden yellow dye, 4-chloro-2-nitro - 41 - methyl - diphenylamine, dried and topped by treatment for 4 hours with an aqueous solution at 65 DEG C. containing the same three dyes and a mixture of xylene and turkey red oil; the wool remains undyed; (4) a top or sliver of cellulose acetate staple fibre is padded with a similar aqueous acetone solution containing wool fast blue GL. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the similar use, for colouring any cellulose ester or ether textile materials, of the dye in any aqueous medium containing any lower aliphatic ketone and specifies the use of methyl ethyl ketone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
