Abstract

645,290. Hydraulically operated brakes. HILLCOAT, E. March 2, 1948, No. 6567. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A hydraulically operated braking system having an electrical low level warning device in a liquid storage tank 2 [see Group XVIII], comprises a cylinder 3 communicating through orifices 34 and 35 with the tank 2. Pressure exerted on a head 14 advances a piston 4 against a spring 22 to force liquid in the cylinder 3 to open a valve 26, whereby the liquid is delivered to the brake cylinders via a conduit 30. Upon release of pressure at 14, the spring 22 returns the piston 4 and liquid passes through orifices 8, 9 in it and past a flexible element 21 to enter the part of the cylinder 3 in front of the piston head. Liquid returning from the conduit 30 forces open a valve 23 against a spring 27 and excess liquid in the cylinder 3 is returned to the tank 2 via the orifice 34.
