Abstract

644,521. Aerials. BEST, N. M., and ANTIFERENCE, Ltd. May 10, 1948, No. 12820. [Class 40 (vii)] A receiving aerial for television comprising a dipole is mounted upon and insulated from a conducting mast which is itself supported in an insulated manner and used as an aerial for receiving transmissions of a lower frequency. As shown, the television aerial comprises, in addition to the dipole 21, 22, a reflector 25, both of which are insulated from the supporting cross-piece 19 which is conductively connected to the supporting mast 17. Mast 17 is supported in insulating holders 15, 16 by a bracket 12. The lower end of the mast comprises a housing as described in Specification 588,328, from which a lead 29 is taken to the lowfrequency receiver. The members 17 and 19 are tubular, and the lead 24 from the dipole to the television receiver passes through these. In a modification the crosspiece is insulated from the mast 17 which then acts alone as the low-frequency aerial. The reflector and corresponding portion of the crosspiece may be omitted; in this case the mast and the remaining portion of the cross-piece are used as the low-frequency aerial.
