Abstract

613,508. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 28, 1944, No. 14493. Convention date, July 9, 1943. [Class 40 (vii)] A directional aerial suitable for use in an equi-signal glide path system as described in Specification 546,668, comprises a horizontal V aerial 6, 8 energized in phase opposition at the apex and backed by a vertical plane reflector 2. The transmission line 18 is enclosed in the tubular screen 10 mounted perpendicular to the reflector 2 and the ends of the V elements 6, 8 are supported from the reflector and the tubular screen by insulators, Fig. 2 (not shown). The inherent capacity between the ends of the elements and the supports may be increased by the addition of condensers 12 and 14 and the lengths of the elements are made <1>/5# to give the aerial a broad band characteristic. In order to produce uniform radiation within a 90 degrees quadrant, the reflector 2 is made rectangular with triangular extensions, Figs. 1, 5 and 6 (not shown). The aerial is suitable for mounting on a vehicle in a mobile glide path installation. The detailed construction of the aerial elements is illustrated in Specification 604,751, [Group XL (c)].
