Abstract

1,261,919. Aerials. SHIU-CHANG LOH. 2 May, 1969 [7 May, 1968], No. 21653/68. Heading H4A. A loop aerial element of one or more turns is associated with two plane conductive reflectors, one of which is smaller than the other, said reflectors being axially disposed on opposite sides of the loop, and parallel to it. In use, the loop element is arranged in a vertical plane directed towards a radio station from or to which signals are to be sent. As described, a loop 1 consists of a single turn of copper tubing formed into a circle of perimeter approximately equal to # (= the normal operating wavelength) which is supported by an insulating strut la upon an insulating shaft 2. A circular reflector 3 is cut from copper wire mesh to a diameter greater than #, and is adjustably mounted upon the shaft 2 behind the loop 1. A smaller circular member 4 is also cut from copper wire mesh (its diameter being greater than #/4), and is adjustably mounted upon the shaft 2 in front of the loop 1. The loop aerial element may be of other than circular shape, for example, square or rectangular (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). The spacing between the reflectors is stated to be normally about #, but to be adjustable in dependence upon the radiation resistance required for a particular application.
