Abstract
647,890. Aerials. PHILCO CORPORATION. May 2, 1947, No. 11859. Convention date, June 7, 1946. [Class 40 (vii)] The directivity produced by a hollow wavedirective structure having a mouth and a principal axis of propagation, such as a spherical reflector, or a horn, as shown at 4 in Fig. 1, is modified by the addition of a plurality of waverefractive elements 9, 10 mounted in front of the mouth and spaced along the principal axis of propagation. Each element comprises a dielectric disc 9 and may include in addition a smaller metal disc 10. The discs are supported on a dielectric rod 13 and may be slidably mounted to facilitate adjustment of the radiation pattern. The spacing between elements approximates to a multiple of a quarterwavelength. The disc diameters may decrease with increasing distance from the structure. A modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), employs dielectric discs alone of varying thickness and spacing. The entire assembly may be enclosed in a protective dielectric cover. Specification 647,136 is referred to.
