Abstract

810,418. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Nov. 5, 1957 [Nov. 8, 1956], No. 34526/57. Class 40 (7). An aerial for use at very high frequencies comprises two closely mounted primary elements, one for transmission and one for reception, a beam forming element and a means for decoupling the energy paths to these primary elements. In one embodiment the primary elements are horns 2 and 3 (see Fig. 1) which are connected to waveguides 4 and 5 and which are directed towards a reflector 1. The guide 4 is used for transmission and the guide 5 for reception. An extension 6 of the guides' common wall forms a means for decoupling the two energy paths and consists of a conducting plate, the plate being, for example, rectangular and of dimensions of the order of the working wavelength. The primary elements are therefore associated with different parts of the reflector and so these two parts need not be of the same size. Other embodiments, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), illustrate aerials wherein the feeder guides pass through the reflector to the.primary elements; the extended common wall again providing the decoupling and in the case of dipole primary elements also forming the mounting means for these elements. In order to avoid radiation from the guide walls to the reflector in these latter embodiments a covering of a damping material may be affixed to the guide walls where they pass through the reflector.
