Abstract

730,003. Aerials. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C. Dec. 3, 1951 [Dec. 1, 1950], No. 29519/50. Class 40 (7). An aerial comprising a slotted wave-guide 1 mounted at the focus of a " cheese " reflector 6 comprises also a body of dielectric material 3 placed in the path of energy passing between the wave-guide and the reflector and preferably affixed to the surface of the wave-guide, in order to cause, in the case of the aerial being-used for transmission, substantially all the energy radiated from the wave-guide to impinge upon the reflector and thus reduce loss by lateral radiation from the slots. Fig. 4 is a front view of the radiating face of the wave-guide upon which is mounted an equilateral-triangular prism of dielectric material. The radiating slots 2 are displaced in alternately opposite directions from the centre line of the face of the wave-guide, the inner two slots being displaced to a greater extent than the outer two. The wave-guide 1 is attached to the upper and lower surfaces 4 and 5 of the reflector by means of the brackets 7, spacing washers being inserted as necessary between the guide and the brackets to adjust the position of the guide with respect to the focal line of the reflector. In a modification, Fig. 7, the wave-guide 14 comprises two radiating slots which are both displaced in the same direction with respect to the centre line of the guide face, a dummy metallic element 18 being attached to the waveguide so as to. broaden the slotted face thereof and make the slots lie centrally with respect therewith.
